General rule of thumb in measuring for a chandelier is as follows: (Of course there are always exceptions to the rule!) The width of a chandelier over a dining room table should be approximately 1/2 to 3/4 the width of the table. The height off of the table should be approximately 30” to the bottom of the lowest point on the chandelier, or 34-38” from the tabletop to the candle cup (bobeche).
