Christa’s thumbprint is all over Palm Beach mansions, Miami hotels and clubs, New York City and beyond. She has worked with designers Ralph Lauren and Nina Campbell; landscape architects like Sanchez and Maddux; international architects like Tony Chi and Philippe Starck. These people, and other clients have lent great ideas, as well as books and magazines, but Christa’s greatest inspirations are grottoes in Italy, Follies in Great Britain and Bavaria, and scuba diving.

From Minimalist to Organic Baroque, Christa’s South can create a unique seashell and coral mirror, wall panels, or accessories and lighting that will blend nicely with contemporary decor as well as very formal Louis XV. Shells and coral lend texture and natural color to minimalist rooms. A powder room, sumptuously wrapped in shell paneling is a marvel to behold. It’s amazing how many directions the medium can take. We can antique and make objects look like artifacts found at the bottom of the sea after 500 years. We can “grow” barnacles on things, for instance, or darken a piece to give patina and “age”. Organic looks can be easily achieved, as well as complex, symmetrical designs or mosaics. A simple Placuna Oyster mirror can lend organic style to any room. Christa’s new line of refillable soy candles use Syrinx, Giga clams, Scallops, Cowries, Pearled shells and limpets in their designs, and the new wholesale line includes Cloches, Lazy Susans, Hurricane Lanterns, Platters, Service Plates, Bookends, Busts and Mounted Seashells for tables and bookshelves.

Christa is currently experimenting with molds and plasters and will soon introduce her first pair of Organic Renaissance Sconces — you’ll be shell shocked! With catalog creations always ready to take home, Christa’s South has a 2,000 square foot atelier also full of exotic oysters, clams, corals, fossils, conchs, crystals and Nautilus shells. There is a wood shop, so we make our own sturdy mirror frames. We use the appropriate glues, epoxies and silicone for each project. If it is a lighting fixture to hang outdoors, say, the base will be powder coated. If it is a mirror, it will be built of marine quality woods, using stainless-steel fittings and sturdy “J” clip-systems to hang larger pieces. We also do a bang-up job of fine art crating, of course. We are timely, professional and guarantee our work. At the request of many people, Christa gives Seashell Workshops throughout the Season in Palm Beach. Check EventBrite for times and dates. The Product Gallery has shell jobs Christa has done in the past.
