Last year, I made a DIY beaded chandelier for my blog Dollar Store Crafts using a dollar store hanging planter, and several strands of Mardi Gras beads. Mine looked pretty good — for a dollar store version — but this DIY chandelier by Lindsey from Simply Salvage is absolutely gorgeous! Inspired by the Marjorie Skouras beaded chandelier (has a hefty pricetag of over $5000), Lindsey created this chandelier using hand-painted wooden beads and cabochons as a commissioned piece for Krista Salmon at Kiki’s List (check out the whole room, with awesome photos by Ryann Colleen Photography). Custom Beaded Chandelier by Simply SalvageI was soooooo impressed with this do-it-yourself beaded waterfall chandelier featured on 6th Street Design School earlier this week.Using a wire hanging flower basket as a starting point, you can make this chandelier for a few dollars!  Check out the tutorial at Gus + Lula.  I haven't tackled a good DIY in a while - would love to give this a try for my "new" (and totally stalled out) bedroom project!

Catalonia Chandelier, Shine by S.H.ODotarła już do mnie paczuszka z wygranym candy od Marty z "Dziupli sowy".  A w niej śliczny obrazek z marynistycznym motywem i woreczek w paski wypełniony pachnącą lawendą. Będą idealnie pasować do dziecięcej sypialni na naszych Kalinkach.  Pokoik jest w stylu nautical, który bardzo lubię i, co najważniejsze, zaakceptowany został przez dzieci:) Obrazkiem też są zachwycone i już nie możemy się doczekać żeby go tam powiesić. Dynie pochodzą z mojego ogrodu (). Dynie stały sobie na tarasie i nagle pojawił się... czarny kot... Jeśli szukalibyśmy biżuterii dla domu, to byłby to na pewno żyrandol z prawdziwych turkusów (Turquoise Empire Chandelier) firmy Marjorie Skouras Design. Jest baaardzo drogi (ok. 7000$), więc pozostaje tylko na niego popatrzeć. A może zrobić podobny samodzielnie? W ofercie IKEA w tamtym roku też pojawiła się czarna kuchnia, która zachwyciła mnie od pierwszego wejrzenia. 

Może na zasadzie kontrastu z moją jasną "domową" kuchnią w kolorze waniliowym, którą mam juz 10 lat i oczywiście chciałabym już inną. Ta czarna  kuchnia z IKEA w Nazywa się RAMSJÖ i jest właściwie czarno-brązowa. Do dużej i małej kuchni: Kuchnia z nowego katalogu IKEA 2012 Dzisiaj kuchennych marzeń ciąg dalszy... restaurant chandelier eforie nord contactKuchnie w kolorze czarnym. chandelier atm bobinoDość odważny pomysł na kuchnię, ale wygląda - moim zdaniem- świetnie. dale chihuly chandelier costKlasycznie, ale z pazurkiem... Kuchnia nie jest tylko kolejnym pieknym wnętrzem w domu gwiazdy, ale spelnia też rolę zwyczajną i uzytkową, ponieważ Gwyneth lubi gotować.

Jej przepisy, jak również wiele innych ciekawostek lifestylowych, można znaleźć na autorskim blogu GOOP oraz w wydanych przez nia książkach kucharskich: Na Kalinkach do generalnego remontu pozostała mi jeszcze tylko (a może "aż") kuchnia. Dlatego zaczęłam szukać inspiracji kuchennych. Decyzji co do ostaecznej kolorystyki jeszcze do końca nie podjęłam: na pewno biel, dodatek niebieskiego z ceramiki i porcelany, może czerwień?, może żółty? Albo naturalne kolory drewna. Bo ma być naturalnie, trochę skandynawsko, trochę rustykalnie, trochę shabby. Nie tak elegancko, jak w kuchniach stylu New England, chociaż takie białe z dodatkiem czerni też bardzo lubię. Zdjęcia kuchni rustykalnych zamieszczone poniżej pochodzą z czasopisma Arcitectural Digest: Ta z żółtą wyspa podoba mi się najbardziej: Bardzo podoba mi się też kuchnia z hotelu La Maison sur la Sorgue z czerwonymi kafelkami: Wytłumaczę się teraz z mojej małej aktywności blogowej w ten weekend.

Otóż ma ona związek z Metropolitan Opera... Jak już kiedyś pisałam (tutaj) jestem fanką opery, a Metropolitan Opera w Nowym Jorku jest mekką dla każdego miłośnika muzyki operowej. Największe światowe gwiazdy, najsławniejsi reżyserzy, doskonała orkiestra prowadzona przez znanych dyrygentów, olśniewające scenografie wystawianych oper, wspaniałe kostiumy - wszystko to sprawia, ze każdy spektakl jest wydarzeniem. Jednak z powodu odległości jaka dzieli nas od USA wyprawa na kolejne premiery do MET jest raczej mało możliwa. Ale jak to mówią- nie przyszła góra do Mahometa, przyszedł Mahomet do góry (if Mohammed will not go to the mountain, the mountain must come to Mohammed)... I to w sensie dosłownym- dzięki technologii Live in HD, dzieki której w tej samej chwili widzowie na całym świecie mogą "na żywo" oglądać przedstawienia z Metropolitan. Transmisje można oglądać w 1200 teatrach i kinach 42 krajów na świecie. Ja mam to szczęście, że w Łodzi Filharmonia Łódzka jako pierwsza w Polsce zaczęła transmitować spektakle z MET, więc od kilku sezonów jeden lub dwa razy w miesiącu czuję się jakbym była w Nowym Jorku...

Transmisje odbywają się w technologii High Definition, na ogromnym ekranie o wymiarach 6x11 m, przy użyciu nowoczesnego systemu transmisji dźwięku Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. In case it slipped your mind, here is the low down... So, we promised you the nitty gritty details of our 70's theme party that we hosted last week...and we are here to deliver! This 70's themed party was like none other, it was a Murder Mystery Dinner Party. I cannot even tell you where I came up with the idea to do this, but I did. I have been to an actual Murder Mystery Theater Dinner before and it was so much fun, so why not host one at your house!

So we started googling ways to host an at home Murder Mystery party and came across a kit called: How to Host a Murder. The game gives you ideas from menu choices, (which we did not follow because they were going with the whole hippie theme, ie bean sprout salad, yanothanks) costumes (our friends came up with their own hilarious renditions of their characters from the 70's. Men in women's pants, no we are not kidding) and even home decor (which we also didn't follow as they suggested a tie-dye love pad). So basically, we made up our own game. So instead of these suggestions, we chose to host an Italian feast (including the Creamy Baked Fettuccine with Asiago), with all of the trimmings, and decorate the house in a 70's Palm Springs Mid-Century Modern theme. The house was exuding Dean Martin, circa 1969. Here is what we came up with. This tablecloth is a Raw Linen Robert Allen Fabric in Raspberry, that I found at JoAnn's at 20% off. This fun little embellishment you see on the cloth can be credited to a little grosgrain ribbon and fabric glue.

To achieve the mid-century modern look punchy colors, organic fabrics, brass accents white ceramic accessories are in order. To continue with the theme, here was the bar area. Remember the $10 chair? Well it's been waiting patiently for some TLC and I think I finally decided just what to do with it! Ever since the fabulous Emily Clark posted this diy on painting upholstery I haven't been able to get it off my mind! I would love to have it recovered or try recovering it myself but neither of those options are in the cards at the moment. Painted upholstery might be just what the dr. ordered! Kristy at Hyphen Interiors did a phenomenal job transforming this... {See the step by step process here.} Call me crazy, I think I am going to take a swing at it. I will be back soon with the results! Chairs can serve as the ultimate accessory in a room. With the right color, pattern and shape, a simple chair can transform the room's mood and give it new life. We have a few chairs of our own waiting for some love and it's time to find some inspiration!

Our bracket has retro, vintage, unique architecture, clean lines, fun colors, stone, organic material and funky shapes all going to the Elite 8. So we are totally in the theme of the 70's. We are hosting a 70's themed party this weekend, which we will give you the deets on next week... but this whole set up has got us thinking about mid-century decor. We are hoping to achieve the same aura for our party as we cannot handle the whole "hippie" theme. We love the look of mid-century pieces mixed with old and new. Please look at this first room.
