On Sale: The Chandelier That Produces a Shadow Forest of Wild Trees A year and a half ago, we told you about Forms in Nature, a stunning light sculpture by Hilden & Diaz (Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz) that casts shadows of trees throughout a room. The 3D printed piece takes eight hours of assembly by hand. Created in Copenhagen, the beautiful chandelier took the world by storm. The first 100 editions quickly sold out, and a new 100 editions is currently under production. The new chandeliers will differ slightly but the final results will be very similar. The dimensions will be: 61L x 51W x 48H and the light fixture has been increased to a 90W bulb with dimmer. The inspirations behind this project are German painter Casper David Friedrich's romantic depiction of man in the wild and German naturalist Ernst Haeckel's plant and animal drawings. As Pio stated, "We wanted to recreate the feeling of being surrounded by mysterious nature, filling the room with these shadows of unknown nature, and being dominated by it."

The stunning piece doesn't come cheap, though you can pay in installments, you're looking at a prize of $4,100 USD or 3280 Euro. Each work is engraved and comes with a certificate of authenticity with the edition number of 1 to 100. Hilden & Diaz keep very close relationships with their clients, who often send them photos of their light fixtures once they're installed. When you turn it on, a white bunch of tangled roots and branches casts 360 degree shadows transforming your entire room look into a spooky forest. Could you imagine one hanging in your house?

under Art, carousel showcase, Design, Gallery, Green Lighting This stunning Forms in Nature chandelier transforms any room into a fairytale landscape! Inspired by drawings made by German biologist and naturalist Ernst Haeckel, designers Hilden & Diaz created an intricate bundle of entangled roots, bushes and tree branches that projects a 360-degree forest of shadows when illuminated from within. Hilden & Diaz mirrored the forest-like sculpture around its horizontal and central axis to form a full circle around the light source. The mirrorings are thrown onto the wall and create almost Rorschach-like patterns whose shapes feed on ones imagination. Besides the shape of the chandelier, light intensity also affects the overall atmosphere—when the light is dimmed the chandelier creates an image of a weak fire burning in the forest. It is left to a person’s imagination to read the over-sized shadows as a forest gently lit by the flickering camp fire, or a terrifying underworld filled with monsters lurking behind the roots and bushes.
