choros chandelier visual comfort

Dancing on the Ceiling Two of my favorite designers, Suysel Cunningham and Anne Foster of Tilton Fenwick debuted their new bath at the Traditional Home Hamptons Showhouse in Southampton, currently on view. Their bathroom features my Choros chandelier from Visual Comfort over the bathtub. It looks terrific when looking up from a long soak. The original idea for this collection was to bring more expressive design to bath sconces. So many bath fixtures are just plain ordinary. The inspiration for The Empire Sconce came from these 1970’s “imperial” drinking glasses that are hand-painted in gold. The pattern was reinterpreted and elongated for a more sleek, updated vibe. It comes in 2 different Kichler finishes: Natural Brass (above) and Classic Pewter (below).
The sconces are available in two sizes, 20″ and 24″ and can be mounted vertically (as a single or in a pair) or horizontally above a vanity mirror. They are so versatile, they can even be moved out of the bathroom and into the rest of the house (as seen at the top of this post). Equipped with LED they are suitable for a variety installations. For further information and specifications go to  Kichler Lighting. I purchased the Imperial glasses from, the very knowledgeable,  Sam at  Mostly Modern in Miami, one of my favorite haunts. New Yorke, New Yorke A good desk is hard to find. I’m always in search of the perfect one for my projects. My wish list includes: • something that is modern and airy • has one drawer (since there is so little actual paper to store these days) • looks great from every angle, so it can be floated in a room • works well standing behind a sofa or anchored against a wall I designed the Yorke desk for Ferrell + Mittman to fulfill all these wishes.
From this design, they beautifully crafted a timeless piece. As pictured below, the top is rosewood and the base is walnut, hand-made and hand-finished in North Carolina. With the Yorke’s design, there are almost infinite options of wood species, sizes, and finishes available. I can imagine this piece in anything from light cerused oak to walnut burl, anything you can envision. I am also looking forward to seeing it “grow up to be a dining table” soon.  The Yorke desk is exactly what I’ve been seeking. Elle Decor‘s September Issue and Dering Hall agree. The Yorke Desk is also currently featured in Dering Hall’s, 11 Well-Organized Home Offices. For more details, go to Ferrell+Mittman. Executing a variety of styles allows me to spread my creative wings. While my clients’ homes vary in aesthetic from one to the next, they are all infused with my own style and feature some of the same elements that I find to be fundamental. I try not to use the same pieces all of the time, but there are a handful of things that I have used multiple times. One of these key pieces is one of my favorite dining table styles in existence. Eero Saarinen’s iconic Tulip Dining Table is an absolute classic in my eyes. It’s clean lines work in just about any environment and it pairs perfectly with a variety of chairs.
The original, available through Design Within Reach is available in round or oval options, in a variety of finishes, the most popular being a white base with the option of a marble top, white laminate top, or Rosewood veneer top. There are also plenty of Saarinen-inspired tulip tables out there for a less cost-prohibitive approach. I have a tulip table in my breakfast room (pictured above) and I love it so much. It is so sculptural and adds a perfect touch of modern style to the space. I paired mine with Ballard Design’s Dayna Side Chairs and a Choros Chandelier from Visual Comfort. I recently removed the layered geometric rug and have plans to reupholster the chairs to change up the look a bit! For a different look, I recently used a laminate top tulip table in my clients’ breakfast room pictured directly below. They have young children, so it was important to use low maintenance materials. We paired the table with white Bertoia side chairs with white vinyl cushions, a striped indoor/outdoor rug, and a custom-designed, upholstered banquette in Perennials fabric.
We added a roman shade in John Robshaw fabric, an Extra Large Hicks Pendant by Thomas O’Brien, and hung my clients’ collection of plates on the wall. I have rounded up some examples of stylish breakfast rooms that illustrate that the tulip table really is the most versatile dining table there is, along with a few of my favorite combinations. {A Sneak Peek of a Breakfast Room I Recently Designed for a Client | Photography by Max Burkhalter} {A Classic White Tulip Table Paired with Bistro Chairs | via Cococozy} {A White Saarinen Table with Thonet Armchairs | via Rip + Tan} {My friend, Mark Sikes has a tulip table in his kitchen, too.
