Just waiting for that fateful moment where the priceless crystals smash to the floor is enough to get anyone's heart racing. But thankfully, the Blackpool Tower Ballroom team are a little more professional than Del Boy and Rodney as they lower the astonishing chandeliers for a good feather dusting.
Nerve-wracking: Chandelier comes down for cleaning There's fourteen chandeliers in total, and each individual shard of crystal has to be polished to bring back its dazzling shine. All 1,120 light bulbs, which light up the Strictly Come Dancing stage when the show takes a trip to the north-west ballroom, also have to be checked to ensure they're in perfect working order. Bosses at Blackpool Tower are unable to put a value on the chandeliers because they are "priceless." And if all that wasn't enough, the floor needs special treatment too. It has to be stripped back, sanded and polished to within an inch of its life to ensure it is at the highest standard for when the ballroom dancing season starts. 'Careful, Rodney': Each crystal is individually polished The entire process takes a full two weeks in total. Kate Shane, general manager at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom said: "Of course it's a colossal undertaking, requiring huge skill, but it's maintenance work such as this that keeps the opulence and grandeur of The Blackpool Tower Ballroom alive."
