After a careful two year restoration and refurbishment project The City Rooms has been brought back to life. Opening its doors once again for business in October 2006, it is now a very popular venue for weddings, parties, balls and conferences. This stunning, historic venue attracts guests from all over Leicestershire, the East Midlands and further afield. Built in 1792, it is a venue steeped in history, with many fascinating features, giving evidence of the original plans for the building to become the premier hotel in Leicester.

Used primarily as a venue to hold events, The City Rooms is also now open as first intended over two hundred years ago and is considered now to be one of the best wedding venues in Leicestershire. The four lavishly decorated boutique bedrooms are also one of the best kept secrets in the city centre. The ballroom, with its magnificent windows and grand chandeliers, is a stunning setting for any wedding and is sure to take your breath away. It spans the whole length of the first floor and is 9 metres in height which gives the room a sense of space and grandeur. It can seat up to 200 guests and is often used for the ceremony as well as the wedding breakfast and evening reception. As well as the ballroom we also have a beautifully decorated bar and two other suites, the dining room and the drawing room, which are perfect for more intimate celebrations. “I was really pleased to finally get gold as it’s good for me and for my shop which I opened in September. I’m hoping that the gold medal will give me a real push forwards.” Her two previous successes, also in the young florist of the year class, were a silver medal in 2010 and bronze last year, both when she was working with The Flower Studio in Market Bosworth. She was previously a member of Squad UK, and was runner up to represent the UK at last year’s WorldSkills London 2011. Jessica said: “During my time in the squad, I got the chance to train with some of the best florists in the world, including Gregor Lersch, Per Benjamin and David Denyer.” She has also helped on two other projects this year. One was a floral sculpture of broadcaster David Attenborough at the gates of Kew Gardens. “The sculpture was designed by Joe Massie and took our team of six two days to perfect. The artwork uses 50 species of plants including passion flowers, sempervium and nepenthes plants.

A Phalaenopsis orchid is used as the focal piece in David’s hands and over 1000 flowers were used to create the likeness which was made to his measurements. “The metal structure that the design was built onto was made by Steven Shepherd from Shenton. “I was also part of the team that helped make the rose dress for this year’s Asda Valentines Day promotional campaign. “The dress weighs just under two stone and the petals from 1000 of Asda’s Naomi red roses were used for the body of the dress. The hip and skirt of the dress are shaped by 15 exquisite Carmen roses formed by assembling the petals from several roses to form a large bloom and 200 chrysanthemums, decorated with gold-leaf. “The hem on the gown is made with petals from 150 Purple Power roses, 75 gerberas and 300 carnations. The entire look was completed with a pair of rose petal covered stiletto shoes. This dress was also designed by Joe Massie.” Roger Francis (UK) and Bob Archer (UK)This well established, long running fair transferred from its old location, NOW all at this stunning NEW LEISURE CENTRE.......many familiar stall holders, lots of bargains & curios.
