chandelier sketch only fools and horses

Is nothing sacred in the world of transatlantic remakes? Apparently Only Fools and Horses isn't – the quintessentially English comedy of south London wheeler-dealers is being given an American reboot and we all have to live with it. G2's showbiz spies now reveal the subtle tinkerings that have been made with the original formula. • The David Jason role will be filled by Jason Alexander. The Rodney role will, confusingly, be taken on by Tracy Morgan from 30 Rock, while the character of Uncle Albert is killed off in the first show, and replaced by an attractive female cousin, played by someone from Bridesmaids, but not the large one. • The cockney-heavy dialogue will obviously have to change, and so American viewers can expect to soon be parroting classic catchphrases such as "Rodney, you goddamn asshole!", "Awesome jawsome!" and "YO! I straight done thought up a zany money-making scheme fo' sheezy!" • The theme song will retain its original lyrics but be given a more hip-hop feel by T-Pain, who also guest stars in the first episode in which Del Boy tries to sell him a counterfeit version of Auto-Tune.
• The family will, true to the original, drive a distinctive yellow vehicle emblazoned with the family logo. However, in the US version it will be a monster truck called "Big Del". • The Nag's Head will now be a branch of Hooters. • The episode where the boys disconnect the wrong chandelier will be set in the Playboy mansion, and will feature a cameo from Hugh Hefner that the show's creators describe as "entirely forced upon us by nervous network mannequins". • The episode in which Del Boy falls through an opened bar-top has been scrapped, for fear that it inspires a wave of copycat pratfalls in the nation's youth. • The location has been shifted to the poverty-stricken district of Bedford-Stuyvesant in New York, where drug crime and shootings are commonplace. "We wanted somewhere as bad as Peckham," said the show's producers, "but we couldn't find anywhere." Published On Monday, July 26, 2010 By admin. And this extremely enjoyable hour and a half in his company this evening helped to explain why.The Bristolian shared eight of his favourite comedy clips with a packed St George's as part of the Slapstick Festival. Some were fairly predictable, while others were properly surprising. Most interestingly, only one was British. But what they all showed was that Merchant is a wistful student of comedy history and that many of his inspirations have significant slapstick elements.
And we learned some interesting facts about him and his heroes. He used to live in a flat in a building that was owned by Charlie Chaplin. Bob Hope was bitten by a dog in St George's Park (no, really). He and writing partner Ricky Gervais are such Laurel and Hardy fans that Gervais or Tim Freeman would unashamedly "do an Ollie" in the Office - and, despite being a woman, Ashley Jensen would be told to "do a Stan" in Extras. "You just couldn't do that nowadays".Laurel and Hardy in Beau Hunks, with Ollie mistakingly and preposterously pampering Stan's foot, thinking it was his own. Merchant marvelled at the "particular poise and precision" of Hardy's movement.Jackie Chan involved in a painful bike chase. Merchant praised Chan's stunts and said that Tom Cruise was the only actor left who was prepared to do his own.
He joked that he'd like to be the "Tom Cruise of comedy" but that one filming incident where he crashed through a table had left him with a bad back.Bob Hope preparing for a gunfight in Pale Face - he loved Hope's "cowardly braggart" characters.Woody Allen practically destroying his flat while trying to impress a date in Play it Again Sam - "a masterclass of physical comedy".Chris Farley playing a not-very-inspirational speaker for a sketch during American comedy show Saturday Night Live. Unlike Farley, Merchant admitted he didn't have any demons - which he'd tried to redress "by persuading my mum to go on the game".The Marx Brothers filling a ship's cabin with an unlikely assortment of characters during A Night at the Opera - "they were "punk before it existed".The famous chandelier scene from Only Fools and Horses, which Merchant described as "the perfect joke".Shows like this are what the Slapstick Festival is all about.
