They will also assist passengers throughout the cruise by providing information and tips on dining (restaurants, bars), entertainment (lounges, scheduled events, presentations, promotions), tours and excursions (offered in ports of call along the cruise itinerary). These robots (named “Pepper”) are able to communicate in 3 different languages (English, German, Italian), to move fluidly and to interpret human emotions by analyzing voice tones and face expressions. Designed by the companies ALDEBARAN and SoftBank, Pepper was launched in Japan (June 2014) as the world’s first “emotional” robot. Its main statistics are: The new technology was first tested on the AIDAstella ship where Pepper learned to engage with passengers and crew. The first set of robots will be introduced on the Costa ship Diadema and the AIDA ship Prima in spring 2016. By the end of summer 2016, Pepper robots will be added on all AIDA and Costa cruise ships. Costa Atlantica cruise ship deck plan has a total of 1109 staterooms for 2218 passengers (max capacity is 2836 guests), served by 900 crew/staff.

The Costa cruise ship Atlantica has 12 passenger decks (all named after Federico Fellini’s movies), 4 restaurants, 14 lounges and bars, 4 swimming pools (one with retractable glass roof), 5 jacuzzies, 15 elevators. During the Atlantica’s 18-days drydock refurbishment in Shanghai (January 2015) to the vessel were added a total of 52 new inside and Suite staterooms. The additional cabins were added forward on decks 9 and 10. They increased the vessel’s passenger capacity – from 1057 staterooms to 1109, from 2114 passengers to 2218), and the max capacity from 2680 to 2836 passengers.
