The romantic Ischa Islandi s situated, together with the island of Capri, just off the coast of Naples. Because of the amount of trees growing here it is also known as “Green” island. In the capital, Ischia Porto, stroll streets fringed with lemon and Indian fig trees and lined with chic boutiques, bars, restaurants and hotels. Follow the narrow causeway and climb up (or take the lift) to the impressive picture-perfect Castello Aragonese, which crowns the promontory at Ischia Ponte (and is perhaps familiar to many as the backdrop for Hollywood film The Talented Mr Ripley).

Here, you can choose from two golden sand beaches – Spiaggia San Pietro and Spiaggia degli Inglesi – that sit between Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. Inland, choose from a network of pleasant hiking trails that wind through a green and hilly landscape dotted with chestnut forests and picturesque hillside towns. For panoramic views, hike to the summit of Mount Epomeo (787m), Ischia’s now dormant volcano and highest peak.
