I know I have. Keeping cleaners beyond their recommended shelf lives can cause them to lose some efficacy while degrading plastic containers can alter their formulas. To ensure that you're getting the most out of your cleaners, here s what manufacturers recommend for their products:Laundry Detergent: Liquid and powder detergent stored in a cool dry place will keep well for 6 months to one year after opening. Some laundry detergents, like All, have the date they were manufactured stamped on the cap or bottle to help you keep track of storage time. Using detergents passed their prime may not get your clothes as clean as fresh detergents will.Oxi Clean Powder: In order for the product to deliver on its unlimited shelf life, the powder must remain dry and kept in a cool location.

Fabric Softener: Whether liquid, dryer sheet, or a dryer bar, fabric softener maintains its softening power for about a year.Multi-Surface Cleaners: These versatile household cleaners work best for up to two years. If they contain antibacterial ingredients, their shelf life may be shortened to one year.Lysol Disinfectant: After two years, the disinfectant spray and wipes may lose some of their effectiveness. If you keep using the product beyond this time, you'll likely notice the fragrance diminishing.Hand Dishwashing Soap: If you like to stock up on dish soap when it's on sale, only buy what you can use up within 12 to 18 months. For automatic dishwashing detergent, don't buy more than you will use within three months.Metal Polish: With the holidays quickly approaching, most likely you'll be polishing your silver soon. However before you apply the polish, check its consistency. This cleaner has a shelf life up to two years. If the solution is lumpy or contains excess water, then its most likely losing its polishing power and it's best to discard it.

To keep better track of your cleaning supplies, try writing the date on the label once you get it home from the store. It's always best to discard any cleaners that have separated, clumped or gotten lumpy, or have an off odor, no matter how recently you've purchased them. Last week I booked my plane ticket to Ohio for my cousin's wedding in October, and just last night our good friend Sarah from Chicago called me and asked me if I would be willing to make 8 centerpieces for her wedding reception in November.

My first foray into wedding design... I've already started pouring over wedding websites such as Once Wed, and I am drooling over all of those gorgeous inspiring photo spreads. I love the way the small details add up to tell the entire story. I can get seriously lost in all of the beautiful wedding details out there. Like "it's-1:00-and-I-haven't-done-a-stitch-of-work-yet-today" kind of lost. So in the spirit of love and obsessive wedding planning, I thought I'd share a photo spread of my own wedding, a little over two years ago. This is the newest addition to what is quietly becoming my newest collection. He's so sweet and chubby, just like a good pig should be. There's another pig, hanging at the other end of my little galley kitchen along with my newly completed "Meat Market" sign. I originally intended to make this sign to hang in my diningroom, but I ended up liking it above the doorway in my kitchen instead.Toni from the blog "A Bowl Full of Lemons" is hosting a giveaway right now featuring my Handmade Soap Samplers.

Two lucky readers will each win one... What are you hanging around here for?! She has all of the details for you... Soap Sampler Giveaway at A Bowl Full of Lemons. A big thanks to Toni for hosting this giveaway. She was the creative mind behind the Parade of Homes earlier this summer... Check that out too if you missed it. I started by swapping the dark stained desk for the white chippy table that was serving as my husbands computer desk on the other side of the room. I added a blue painted box, which was a plain wood box that I painted and antiqued in the same way I did my china cabinet. I also painted a pair of my wooden lamps. on clearance for under $20 and I ordered 4 of them! A couple coats of gray and off-white paint, dabbed and wiped off in just the right places, and Pottery Barn can eat it's pricey little heart out. I spotted this life-size cast iron squirrel finial at a huge beautiful townhouse when we lived in the Gold Coast neighborhood of downtown Chicago.
