, I decided to sample just what makes their collection so special, and undoubtedly unique.And I couldn't have picked better. The word 'wow' was used as I got out of my car and entered into the grounds of the Domaine de Favaze Mr Ganier's art collection is as expansive as it is varied, and there was always something to catch the eye This wasn't a bad view to start the day as I sampled my very own French breakfastchandelier mumtaz The interior of the property was very much like a castle, with beautifully retained stone walls and stone floorsBuilt in 1308, Domaine De Favaze is one of the oldest properties on luxury villa specialist Oliver's portfolio, and certainly one with the richest past. Dating back to the time of the Knights Templar, this stunning property was full of character. Originally built as a bergerie, essentially a sheep pen, over the years the rest of the house was built around it.

The property was renovated around 25 years ago, with the owner stamping their own personal style on it. The natural stone walls have been turned into a feature, and while they’re plastered and painted in a couple of areas the majority of the interior shows off the true charm of the bare walls – where they haven’t been covered in beautiful fabrics.There are six bedrooms in total able to sleep 14 people and six bathrooms. Domaine De Favaze’s decoration and aesthetic has been inspired by the owner’s experience of a journey on the Orient Express, and as such has a beautiful Art Deco look.From model aeroplanes and shimmering chandeliers, to spectacular life-size wooden animals, the house is enchanting as it is mysterious. Writer John found the chateau owner Michel Ganier to be as charming as his beautiful property was The property is steeped in history - built in 1308, walking around Domaine De Favaze is like an enchanting history lessonIt's unlike any other property in the Oliver's Travels collection, so says the company themselves.There are seven wonderful tables throughout the property for dining (one for each day of the week!)The house is supplied with water from a local spring (one of only three villages in the area where this is possible) so you'll be drinking fresh, natural water straight from the tap!It is just a 20 minute drive from Montpellier and the coast. What I loved about the property was that there was always something unexpected just around the corner. A hidden stairwell of one room would lead to another entire floor decked out in French boutique excellence. And what you might believe to be a cupboard turned out to be a bathroom or the entrance to another area of the house. Owner Michel and his Domaine de Favaze provides a journey from within the brickwork – and that's before you venture out into the stunning region of Languedoc in Southern France.So while I did choose to spend a couple of lazy days around the outdoor pool with a gin and tonic in hand, I realised Domaine de Favaze was the perfect base to venture out and see this most beautiful of regions in France.Oliver's Travels also offers a complimentary concierge service

Half-way between Montpellier and Nimes, the historic centre is now officially designated as a 'secteur sauvegarde,' that means it is protected from further development to ensure it retains its medieval character.It is also the place I chose to spend an evening at a local restaurant, on Michel's advice, the Auberge du Pont Roman. Beautifully situated by the Vidourle river, this eatery is well worth a visit, presenting affordable set menu options that take in the best in local produce. The view from the property of Languedoc was simply stunning, and stretched as far as the eye could see To take the stress out of the dreaded airport rush, why not check in an airport hotel the night before and take advantage of a luxury meet and greet service that will help relax you.Visit www.holidayextras.co.ukFor added luxury and depending on where you fly from, why not wait for your flight in an airport lounge?Nimes is an old Roman town around 45 minutes away, and is a must-seem, in particular the Roman Ampitheatre in the centre.It is France's best preserved Roman arena, and as well as holding unparalleled history, it is still used to this day as a bull-fighting and concert arena. I was even lucky enough to hear a Nicki Minaj sound check ahead of her gig there that evening!And as no visit to the south of France would be complete without a scintillating beach, La Grande Motte offers just this.Another bonus is you won't have to fight for a space!Ample parking just opposite, white sands and a spotlessly-clean coastline made this beach a pleasure to visit.

A beach bar and restaurant offered  prime spot sunbeds out front, and then real beds behind in the shade, as well as a varied drinks menu to refresh.But apart from my residence for the week, the most spectacular sight of the trip is the Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The UNESCO World Heritage site of the Pont du Gard was spectacular and historic The Pont du Gard site allowed visitors to take on various activities such as kayaking or simply sunbathing The ampitheatre in Nîmes is now used for concerts; here Nicki Minaj was getting ready for her gig Aigues-Mortes is a French commune in the Gard department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The medieval city walls surrounding the city are well preservedIf I tell you it is a Roman Aqueduct bridge that crosses the Gardon River, this will probably do little to stimulate excitement, apart from the historians among us.But the site is truly spectacular. It is almost as if you are transported to a mesmeric island.

Underneath the glorious bridge built in the 1st Century AD, tourists take to the waters in kayaks, while others lounge on the rocks, complete with beach towels and parasols. It is a place to set aside the whole day for.There are hill and rock treks where you can take in the full expanse of the historic site, offering some exhilarating views. Or you can choose to catch some sun, have a swim, and then enjoy an ice cream in the bar and restaurant areas.Due to the picturesque location of Domaine de Favaze, I would say a car is more of a necessity than just 'a good idea.' But in a 45-minute radius, there is something for each day of the week. For those who are glued to social networking when away be warned, the property does have Wi-Fi but only in the kitchen area. Sadly this doesn't extend out to the pool.But if you're still concerned with checking the latest news from home when you stay in Monsieur Ganier's wondrous home, I'd suggest taking a walk through the house once more time, to just appreciate the fact that you are transported into a world far-removed from everyday life.
