With the initial shock of seeing Shia LaBeouf cage-fight a child and the ensuing controversy about its possible connotations to pedophilia now thoroughly subsided, I think we’re all ready to just appreciate Sia’s ‘Elastic Heart’ for what it is: a really beautiful music video. Today, to give you a better insight into the artistic process (read: a faint idea of WHAT IT ALL MEANS), Sia and her creative team have made a behind-the-scenes clip for US dance network DanceOn. Starring the Australian singer herself, as well as director Daniel Askill and Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf, the clip tells us that ‘Elastic Heart’ is in fact part of a trilogy with a loose narrative about Sia’s inner psyche. As the first video was of course ‘Chandelier’ featuring the phenomenal solo dance work of 12-year-old Maddy Ziegler, this means we can expect one more clip to finish it all off. We have our fingers crossed that it will still include Shia LaBeouf. We should also probably acknowledge the fact that Sia has bananas over her face.

It’s fairly hard to miss and let’s be honest, it’s also the most distracting thing they could have possibly picked. The singer has notoriously avoided showing her face in TV interviews and performances; in her SNL spot last weekend she even wore a frilly visor. Det kan vara frustrerande att se sina placeringar stiga och sjunka i värde, framför allt när det sker i raskt tempo under kort tid. Då brukar falangen med ”långsiktighetskramare” börja få vind i seglen och peka finger åt oss som mer aktivt försöker förvalta våra placeringar och skydda vårt kapital. Och visst kan det kännas riktigt surt om man just sålt en aktie för att kursen sjunkit till en nivå där man bestämt sig för att sälja, bara för att på några veckor få se kursen vända upp igen och nå en ny topp. För att följa med i marknadens svängningar finns det en riktigt bra indikator som mäter dem: Average True Range (ATR). Man kan se ATR-värdet som ett mått på en akties naturliga prisvariation. Varje dag sker ju köp och försäljningar baserat på girighet, rädsla, tvång och glädje, ryktesspridning och matematiska modeller. Kursrörelser som ligger inom detta brus betyder inte så mycket, men om kursen skulle bryta upp eller ned med en rörelse som tydligt överstiger den normala prisvariationen så kan det vara en signal om att kursutvecklingen är på väg in i ett mer dramatiskt skede. 

ATR ger ett mått på den så kallade volatiliteten, och är enkelt att visualisera. I diagrammet ovan ser man tydligt hur volatiliteten ökar dramatiskt under mini-kraschen i oktober, för att sedan klinga av rejält de senaste veckorna. Idag ligger medelvärdet av ATR för OMXS30 under de senaste 10 dagarna på 1.07% av index. Med andra ord kan man förvänta sig, eller åtminstone inte höja på ögonbrynen över dagliga börsrörelser på dryga procenten. Vad kan då använda ett mått på volatiliteten till? Det finns många som söker samband mellan volatilitet och kommande kursutveckling för att tajma placeringar, men till den skaran hör inte jag. Istället gör jag som många andra aktiva förvaltare och låter volatiliteten styra hur mycket jag ska köpa för och när jag ska sälja. För båda dessa beslut fungerar det utmärkt att använda volatiliteten och låta marknadens svängningar påverka dina beslut. Praktiskt så använder jag mig av den så kallade Chandelier exit, där jag sätter placeringens exitnivå på ett avstånd om X * ATR från den högsta kursnoteringen sedan jag köpte aktien.

I takt med att kursen ökar och/eller ATR minskar kommer exitnivån att flyttas uppåt. Den kan dock aldrig flyttas nedåt, så om kursen backar kommer den för eller senare att träffa exitnivån och jag säljer aktien. Om börsen är riktigt svängig kommer avståndet till exitnivån automatiskt att öka för att ge placeringen mer utrymme. Avståndet mellan inköpspris och den första exiten blir varje placerings risk. Köper jag en aktie för 100 kr och exitnivån är 75 kr så är min risk 25 kr per aktie. Genom att definiera hur mycket av min totala portfölj jag vill riskera per placering kan jag enkelt räkna ut hur många aktier jag kan köpa. Låt oss säga att varje placering max får riskera 1% av ditt portföljvärde. Om du har en portfölj värd 100.000 kr så kan du då maximalt riskera 1.000 kr. Om vi tar exemplet ovan är din risk/aktie 25 kr, vilket gör att du kan köpa 1000/25=40 aktier. Skulle den första exiten träffas har du förlorat 1% av kapitalet och inte mer. Ju större avstånd mellan inköpspris och första exit, desto färre aktier kommer du att köpa, vilket gör att du kan hålla din risk konstant.

“Alive” was originally written for Adele’s eagerly anticipated third studio album before it became a Sia song, and the song’s producer, Jesse Shatkin, says that working with the “Rolling In The Deep” star on her first writing credit in years was a dream come true.“I did a few days with [Adele] and Sia in the studio … and that was mind-blowing just to be there, to hang out with her and witness two great minds working together,” Shatkin tells Billboard. “I had been working on some other songs for her record possibly, so I had devoted a few weeks of my life to getting in the zone for doing stuff for Adele. I was thrilled about it the whole time.”Shatkin, whose big break came last year when he co-produced Sia’s Top 10 hit “Chandelier” with his close collaborator Greg Kurstin, says that his work with Sia and Adele for the latter’s album occurred in early 2015, but that “Alive” came together when he was out of the studio. Sia, Adele and Jesso Jr. had written the song with a single piano and vocal during a studio powwow, and Sia sent Shatkin a hard drive with the raw ProTools session soon after.

“With Sia, I can do my hip-hop/electronic thing. With Adele, I was inspired to do more organic things. I think that she has a unique thing in her head that she is going for, and that she knows it when she hears it.”
