Die Chandeleur Islands liegen auf einer Sandbank, die durch Schwemmablagerungen des Mississippi-Deltas entstanden ist.[1] Im Laufe der Geschichte änderte sich die Form der Inseln beständig, sie wurden dabei kleiner und drifteten beständig landwärts.[2] Auch die häufigen Hurrikane und Sturmfluten haben die Form der Inseln ständig verändert, durch die Auswirkungen der Hurrikane George (1989) und Katrina (2005) wurde die Landfläche des Archipels erheblich minimiert.[3] Der zuletzt im Wasser stehende, 1960 erbaute Leuchtturm an der Nordspitze wurde durch Katrina völlig zerstört.[4] Einer Studie der University of New Orleans zufolge haben sich die charakteristischen Sandablagerungen, die bisher nach Tropenstürmen die Basis für eine Wiederbildung der Inseltopografie bildeten, nach „Katrina“ kaum gezeigt, so dass die Zukunft der Inseln unsicher ist.

The guys got a lot of mixed fish like redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, and Sheepshead. A 20 Minute Fight on Light Tackle Leslie was huffin' and puffin' doing battle with this monster redfish! This was the biggest fish he had ever caught on light tackle.
Leslie did a great job getting this bad boy to the boat. It Doesn't Get A Whole Lot Better Than This Matt Glatt of Covington, La. locked horns with this huge redfish in 13" of water.
