The designers Joanna Bibby and Harriet Maxwell Macdonald met while studying at City & Guilds of London Art School and were later joined by Solenne de la Fouchardiere, a graduate of Wimbledon School of Art. The three bonded over a shared love of elegant aesthetics and a passion for contemporary craftsmanship. Taking its name from one of the subtlest pigment shades, the moniker captures the company’s trademark love of subtle, poetic colour.

Launched as a small London studio enterprise in 1996, Ochre has gone on to achieve international acclaim with showrooms now in London and New York.

Every year, new products are introduced and this year has been no exception. In fact Ochre’s new collection focuses on evolution. Of the SS16 collection we’re particularly fond of the elegant new Willow dining table, a graceful oval interpretation of the Whippet featuring granite grey steel legs and a polished plaster top. The Viking handle, carved from fine walnut with a burnished antique brass knuckle is a sleek addition Ochre’s already impressive range while in lighting the Celestial Pebble collection has expanded to include a striking wall light. The organic glass form is juxtaposed with bold bronze or nickel fittings designed to illuminate every space with a tantalizing glow. Created from a hand cast bronze cap encasing a solid drop, the light features hidden leds. Each product might take over a year in development but you’ll be thankful for it. Ochre oozes not just of sophistication but quality. The drive is a fascination with re – interpreting age-old crafts – gilding, lacquer, metal casting, and glass blowing – with a contemporary sensibility to create multi-functional pieces that enhance our lives.
